It’s that time of year again, when the men of Lime Colony make merry, avoid each other for around three straight weeks of vacation, and try and fail to put extra cinnamon sticks into every beverage imaginable. And now this year’s time-of-year is double special, because we are sharing with you our first EVER release of a single. It’s a holiday single. It was stolen by thieves but partially revived. It has an A-side and a B-side (I’m not sure which song is which). It’s for you.

As noted above, you should not drink this particular holiday cheer, but we’ll certainly advise you to download it:

Many thanks to Jennifer, who made it known very early on that she thought a holiday album would be a fantastic idea, and who graciously accepted the compromise of a less epic but just as heartfelt holiday single with an A-side and a B-side. Play bass with us?

Dear Subscribers and Website Readers,

Lime Colony is looking for a kick-butt bass player (upright or electric, preferably both) willing to add a bit of low-end to our recordings and occasional live performances. After some great live shows and numerous open mic appearances (namely at the Hotel Utah), we’re now in the middle of recording an LP’s worth of new music (approximately) to be self-released. We usually get together about once a week (Thurs or Sat nights) in the city. If you love music, and are good at playing it on a bass, then we’d love to hear from you.

To summarize what we’re looking for:
- a talented bass player and musician
- upright or electric or both, preferably
- music-lover
- easy-going
- sense of humor doesn’t hurt
- ability to sing back-up vocals a plus

To further summarize what you should and should not expect, please see below.

What you should expect:
- a friendly environment
- fairly informal but focused rehearsals and recording sessions, when schedules line up
- jokes (usually bad/not-funny)
- open-minded and good-humored bandmates
- to play semi-folk-inspired music, that is sometimes quiet, but sometimes tries to rock pretty hard

What you should NOT expect:
- pay
- a strict or frequent practice/rehearsal/recording schedule (see first paragraph)
- many, many gigs every month
- scary monsters
- fame

End your summer on a high note: go yachting!

Recently, you’ve been waking up in the middle of the night, naked, alarmed and sweaty, standing upright on the matress, with the sheets twisting from the foot of the bed all the way around your ankles… with the sweet taste of some classy bourbon wreathing from the back of your throat… And when this has happened, you’ve also been squinting your crusty little eyes and asking, “What is Lime Colony doing these days? Why don’t they talk to me anymore?”

Here are some answers. Lime Colony has been recording music. Lime Colony has also been learning on the fly, and striving for perfection. And so sometimes the old music has been utterly scrapped, and recorded again from the start. Fresh.

Things are looking up, though. One song is almost complete; we’ve acquired a cello; I finished my bag of buffalo-flavored pretzel bits Earl hated so much; Colin made great headway with Bioshock, and even greater headway with his proficiency in new latin-based rhythms on the drums; Earl got a new shirt from Woot (it’s a funny one, but it would be hard to explain right here (and while i could also just put a picture up, that would spoil the mystery and also infringe too much on Earl’s privacy)); and we’ve spent a few weeks here and there on our band yacht just lounging in the sun sharing old war stories, which has been a nice way to finish out the summer.
